The biggest AI mistake CEOs make isn’t whether to implement it. It’s misjudging the speed at which their industry is being transformed.

Most AI content comes from tech nerds, marketers, and sales teams.

Almost nothing is written for CEOs of small businesses who need to make actual decisions about AI investments.

Being a CEO, this is what I’m asking right now:

How fast do I need to adopt AI in MY industry?

Because the answer determines your strategy, your budget, and your timeline.

These timelines are my read as of late 2025.

REACT NOW (Already Late):

  • Marketing agencies
  • Content creation companies
  • Video production
  • Copywriting services
  • Graphic design firms
  • Customer support centers

These markets have already been heavily impacted. If you’re in one of these, you needed to react yesterday. Your competitors are already using AI to cut costs dramatically and deliver faster.

MOVE FAST (6-12 Months, as of late 2025):

  • Professional services (accounting, legal)
  • Recruiting and HR firms
  • Real estate agencies
  • Software development shops
  • Consulting businesses

AI is transforming these industries right now. You have a small window to get ahead of the curve before it becomes table stakes.

STRATEGIC ADOPTION (12-24 Months, as of late 2025):

  • Manufacturing operations
  • Construction companies
  • Physical retail stores
  • Traditional trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC)
  • Brick-and-mortar service businesses

AI will impact these industries, but the adoption curve is slower. You have time to be strategic, test carefully, and implement thoughtfully.

I’ll be honest, the timelines above for those industries are JUST GUESSES by EVERYONE.

No one really knows because the technology is moving so fast.

Where does your industry fall?

I grew a company to eight figures and built it to run without me. Now I help owners of $1–5M service businesses do the same, run my own work with AI, and write it all down in public.
